Mark 5:35-37a

Matthew 6:35-37a:  “35 And when it grew late, his disciples came to him and said, “This is a desolate place, and the hour is now late. 36 Send them away to go into the surrounding countryside and villages and buy themselves something to eat.” 37 But he answered them, “You give them something to eat.””

The spiritual food God has given us is His Word. Before we can feed others, we must first be fed ourselves. Jesus said, “Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that comes from the mouth of God.” Receive from Christ so you have something to give.

When the disciples saw the hungry multitude in a desolate place, they wanted Jesus to send them away. Instead, Jesus gave them a startling command: “You give them something to eat.” The disciples quickly focused on what they lacked, but Jesus focused on what He could provide. Taking five loaves and two fish, He fed more than five thousand people until everyone was satisfied. The disciples didn’t create the meal—they simply distributed what Jesus placed into their hands.

The same is true for us. Jesus has entrusted His Word to His people, not to keep it to ourselves but to share it with a spiritually hungry world. We cannot distribute what we have not first received. Spend time at the feet of Jesus, be nourished by His Word, and then faithfully give to others what He has graciously given to you.

Father, thank You for feeding us through Your Word. Fill our hearts daily so that we may faithfully share the Bread of Life with those around us. Help us to be faithful distributors of the truth You have entrusted to us. We pray this in Jesus’ name, amen and amen.
