Ezekiel 29:19-20 (ESV): “19 Therefore thus says the Lord God: Behold, I will give the land of Egypt to Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon; and he shall carry off its wealth and despoil it and plunder it; and it shall be the wages for his army. 20 I have given him the land of Egypt as his payment for which he labored, because they worked for me, declares the Lord God.”
To God belong heaven and the heaven of heavens, as well as the earth and everything in it (Deut. 10:14). He owns the nations, and He will do with them as He pleases.
Ezekiel delivers a scathing judgment against Egypt in chapter 29. Why? Because of how they treated the nation of Israel (Gen 12:3). When Babylon pressed hard against Israel, the people turned to Egypt for help. That was sin on Israel’s part—but Egypt also sinned by offering empty promises. They were nothing more than a broken reed in Israel’s hand. So God pronounced judgment on Egypt, using the Babylonians as His instrument. After forty years of captivity, Egypt would never again be the powerful nation it once was. The Babylonians worked for God!
Do you walk through this world as if God truly owns it? He does, you know. That’s why we have nothing to fear. He owns the nations and bends them to accomplish His will. Satan’s power is limited. God is in control. Don’t fret over the shifting of world powers. God is simply arranging things in preparation for Christ’s return. All of this belongs to Him, and He will do with it what He wills. Amen?
Father, thank You for reminding us that everything happening is part of Your sovereign plan. Help us not to fear, but instead to trust You and remain faithful to proclaim the Good News. We pray this in Jesus’ name, amen.
