Ezekiel 39:7-8 (ESV): “7 “And my holy name I will make known in the midst of my people Israel, and I will not let my holy name be profaned anymore. And the nations shall know that I am the Lord, the Holy One in Israel. 8 Behold, it is coming and it will be brought about, declares the Lord God. That is the day of which I have spoken.”
The modern-day people of Israel are God’s chosen people, but they are not yet in right relationship with Him. That restoration will not occur until after the war of Gog and his allies against Israel. Only then will God’s name be sanctified in Israel. In the meantime, His name continues to be profaned among the nations.
Ezekiel is given a still-future vision of God’s redemptive plan for Israel—how He will restore the holiness of His name both in that nation and throughout the world. God will protect and preserve Israel from the surrounding nations, and as a result, the world will know that He is the Lord God, the Holy One of Israel. Gog and his vast armies will be buried in Israel in a place called the Valley of the Travelers, which will thereafter be renamed the Valley of Hamon-gog.
How do you deal with your enemies? Remember, the Lord is your protector, and vengeance belongs to Him. Our responsibility is to maintain Christlike character before our enemies so that we do not profane God’s name. God Himself will deal with those who oppose us. May we trust in His mighty right arm and stay the course in our walk with Jesus. God has everything under control, and He has a plan—amen?
Father, help us to keep our hearts centered on You and not on our circumstances. You are our defender and protector. May we lift up Your name and never profane it. In Jesus’ name, amen.
