Isaiah 64:3-4 (ESV): “3 When you did awesome things that we did not look for, you came down, the mountains quaked at your presence. 4 From of old no one has heard or perceived by the ear, no eye has seen a God besides you, who acts for those who wait for him.”
Waiting often feels like a waste of time—and sometimes it is. But that all depends on who you’re waiting on. There is no better time spent than waiting on God, for He is active in our waiting, preparing everything for His plan to unfold.
Isaiah continues here in chapter 64, penning the prayer of the remnant. As they remember the mighty works of God during the exodus, they can’t help but reflect on how He came down upon Sinai. As frightening as that was for the exiles, it was also a sign that God was with them. Just as they waited for God’s plan to be revealed, so too must the remnant wait upon the Lord for the great things He has in store for them.
Are you in a season of waiting? If so, don’t grow weary—God is up to something! He is preparing you for things beyond your imagination. “No eye has seen, nor ear heard” what awaits those who wait on the Lord. The best thing you can do in the waiting is reflect on God’s goodness. He has already done so many great things in your life. Maybe you forgot to thank Him for those things—this is your chance. Let this be a season of deep gratitude to a God who owes us nothing!
Father, we thank You for times of waiting. They give us the opportunity to pause and reflect on Your goodness and grace. Help us to be patient as we await the great things You have in store for those who love You. We pray this in Jesus’ name, amen.
