Jeremiah 23:5

Jeremiah 23:5 (ESV):  “5 “Behold, the days are coming, declares the Lord, when I will raise up for David a righteous Branch, and he shall reign as king and deal wisely, and shall execute justice and righteousness in the land. 6 In his days Judah will be saved, and Israel will dwell securely. And this is the name by which he will be called: ‘The Lord is our righteousness.’”

Jesus is the only hope for our world. No other King or sacrifice will do. He has come—and He is coming. Are you ready?

After giving a brief history of the failed kings and spiritual shepherds of Israel and Judah, God gives Jeremiah a Messianic promise. He declares that a King will rise from the line of David—a “righteous Branch.” This is a confirming prophecy, for God had already given this word to David (2 Samuel 7:5–16). The Messiah will deal wisely and rule justly and righteously over the land. He will also provide salvation and security to both Judah and Israel. He is Yahweh Tsidkenu, The LORD Our Righteousness—a name that reveals the deity of the Messiah.

Are you looking for another king to save you besides King Jesus? He has come—and He is coming again. Therefore, He deserves our full allegiance, and we should be living for His Kingdom. Don’t look to earthly kings who cannot truly save. Fix your eyes on Yahweh Tsidkenu—God in the flesh and the Savior of the world.  Amen?

Father, help us not to put our trust in anyone other than You. Your Son has become the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world, and He will come again as the Lion of the Tribe of Judah. May we trust in Him alone to save. We pray in Jesus’ name, Amen.
