Job 15:11–13 (ESV): “Are the comforts of God too small for you, or the word that deals gently with you? Why does your heart carry you away, and why do your eyes flash, that you turn your spirit against God and bring such words out of your mouth?”
Regarding God properly during trials will determine how one walks through them. The Lord will not abandon us but will walk with us through every difficulty. The question is: Will you notice His presence and receive His help? This is the only way to truly succeed in our trials.
Eliphaz, responding to Job’s reflections on the afterlife and God’s power to heal even beyond death, rebukes Job. He asks, “Are you the only one who has wisdom? Are you the only one who has to endure hardship?” Then he challenges Job further, saying, “Is the comfort of God too small for you?” Eliphaz believes the only words Job should be saying to God are, “Please forgive me.” In his view, repentance is the only solution to Job’s suffering. While Eliphaz misjudges Job’s situation, his point raises an important question.
Do you seek the Lord in your trials for escape or for comfort? If God chooses not to remove your trial, do you reject His comfort? These are questions we must consider. God works in our lives through our trials according to His will. He has a purpose in what He allows, and we are called to accept this, leaning into Him for help and comfort. He is faithful to see us through every challenge. Don’t miss His presence, Christian. Trials often produce the sweetest fellowship with God. Press into Him and trust Him. Amen?
Father, we thank You for being ever-present in our lives. Help us to sense Your presence and receive the comfort You desire to bring. Teach us to enjoy You in every season of life, even the hard ones. We pray this in Jesus’ name, amen.
