Matthew 25:23 (ESV): “His master said to him, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant. You have been faithful over a little; I will set you over much. Enter into the joy of your master.’”
God has called every human being to steward his or her life. When we stand before Him one day, we will give an account for what we have done. Those who were faithful will be rewarded, and those who were not will not be. Not everyone receives a trophy in eternity.
As Jesus continues speaking to His disciples on the Mount of Olives about things to come, He tells them a parable about their responsibility to steward their time on earth well. He instructs them to be faithful with the time and resources He has given them because they will be judged accordingly. Those who were faithful with the Gospel and with all that God had entrusted to them will be rewarded, while those who were not will be cast into outer darkness, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.
What kind of steward are you? Are you faithful or unfaithful? Our most important measure of faithfulness relates to the Gospel. No matter what else you do, you cannot be found faithful if you reject the Good News of Jesus Christ. Once you have accepted Jesus as Lord, your faithfulness will be demonstrated by how you steward the Gospel. Be found faithful by responding to the Gospel and then sharing it with others. What you do with Jesus determines everything!
Father, we desire to be found faithful. Direct our steps each day so that we remain mindful of our stewardship responsibility and make the most of what You have entrusted to us. We pray this in Jesus’ name, amen.
