Matthew 26:13-15

Matthew 26:13-15 (ESV): 11 For you always have the poor with you, but you will not always have me. 12 In pouring this ointment on my body, she has done it to prepare me for burial. 13 Truly, I say to you, wherever this gospel is proclaimed in the whole world, what she has done will also be told in memory of her.””

We should live our lives in wholehearted devotion to Jesus Christ. Lasting impact is not built on charisma or recognition, but on faithful obedience and worship.

After Jesus finished His Olivet Discourse,

He told His disciples that He would be crucified. Then, while at Simon the leper’s home in Bethany, Jesus was anointed by Mary with a very expensive ointment. Judas became indignant, saying that it could have been sold and the money given to the poor. Jesus responded that the poor would always be with them, but what Mary had done would be remembered wherever the Gospel was preached. She had anointed Him for His burial.

Are you living like Mary?  Her focus was on honoring Jesus.  She offers Him costly worship because He was worthy. True worship values Christ above everything else and willingly sacrifices what is precious for His glory.  We may never be remembered by future generations, but a life faithfully devoted to Christ will never be forgotten by God. Like Mary, may our greatest desire be to honor Jesus above all else.

Father, take our lives and use them in extraordinary ways. We have been bought and paid for at a great price. May our lives reflect the sacrifice that was made on our behalf. Help us to worship You wholeheartedly and to live in a manner worthy of the Gospel. We pray this in Jesus’ name, amen.
