Matthew 28:12-14

Matthew 28:12-14 (ESV): “12 And when they had assembled with the elders and taken counsel, they gave a sufficient sum of money to the soldiers 13 and said, “Tell people, ‘His disciples came by night and stole him away while we were asleep.’ 14 And if this comes to the governor’s ears, we will satisfy him and keep you out of trouble.””

You know you’re in a state of denial when you pay someone to cover up the greatest miracle to ever occur: the resurrection of Jesus Christ. What a sad state to be in.

After Jesus rose from the dead, the soldiers who were guarding the tomb went and told the religious leaders what had happened. Rather than accept this as the very sign Jesus had given them—the sign of Jonah—they made up a story and paid the soldiers to go along with it. The unbelief of these men was so strong that no amount of evidence proving Jesus to be the Messiah would be sufficient. They would not believe.

Are you allowing unbelief to block you from the truth today? Maybe you are doubting God’s love, or questioning whether He has your best interest in mind. Regardless of the circumstance, know this: Jesus is everything He said He was. Don’t let your heart become hardened because of what you are going through. Believe the Lord and trust Him. Amen?

Father, thank You for revealing the truth of Christ and His Resurrection. Strengthen our faith, soften our hearts toward You, and help us trust You even when we do not understand our circumstances. Provide what we need daily to keep our eyes fixed on You. We pray this in Jesus’ name, amen.
