Matthew 8:26-27 (ESV): “26 And he said to them, “Why are you afraid, O you of little faith?” Then he rose and rebuked the winds and the sea, and there was a great calm. 27 And the men marveled, saying, “What sort of man is this, that even winds and sea obey him?”
Anyone who can speak to the wind and the waves and have them obey His voice is worth following. Jesus is the only one in human history to do such a thing; therefore, He is the only one we should follow.
After Jesus healed many people, He and His disciples sailed across the Sea of Galilee to the other side. Along the way, they were caught in a storm. Jesus was asleep while His disciples were fighting for their lives. When their fear reached its pinnacle, they woke Jesus, saying, “Save us, Lord; we are perishing.” Jesus replied, “Why are you afraid, O you of little faith?” Then He rebuked the wind and the waves, and they obeyed Him. His disciples marveled, saying, “What sort of man is this, that even winds and sea obey Him?”
Do you understand the kind of man Jesus is? He isn’t a created man, but the Creator who became man. He spoke the world into existence (Colossians 1:15–19). The fact that the wind and waves obey Him is evidence of that. Jesus is the God-man who possesses all power and authority. He is a man worth committing your whole life to. So follow Him wholeheartedly, for He will put you on the right path. Amen?
Father, who is like You? There is none who can compare. We surrender to You and ask that You would lead us through the storms of our lives as You accomplish Your purposes. We pray in Jesus’ name, amen.
