Numbers 11:4-6

Numbers 11:4–6 (ESV): 4 Now the rabble that was among them had a strong craving. And the people of Israel also wept again and said, “Oh that we had meat to eat! 5 We remember the fish we ate in Egypt that cost nothing, the cucumbers, the melons, the leeks, the onions, and the garlic. 6 But now our strength is dried up, and there is nothing at all but this manna to look at.”

Discontentment is a plague that can turn miraculous provisions into woeful complaints.  Never let your mind downplay how God has provided for you.  He has done more than enough, so be grateful for His gracious provisions.

The children of Israel are a great representation of ungratefulness at times. God brought them out of slavery and the only thing they remembered was how well they ate in Egypt.  Forget the fact that they were daily driven by the whips of taskmasters.  Just three days into their deliverance they complained about the provisions of God.  They longed for the meat of Egypt rather than being captivated by the bread from heaven.  It's a danger we can all fall into when we allow our minds to trick us into thinking we were better off in Egypt.

Let me ask you, are you content with the provisions of God in your life?  If you think more is the answer to your discontentment you are deceived.  You are dealing with a heart issue that can't be cured by getting more. You will never be satisfied with more. God must be our source of contentment, not stuff.  Get your eyes on the Lord and glory in the great things He has done lest you turn His miraculous provisions into woeful complaints.  The manna He has given is enough.  Be satisfied in Him!

Father, forgive us for complaining against You as if we deserve more. You have done more than enough for us. Change our hearts, God. May we recognize all that we already have in You and be satisfied, we pray in Jesus' name, Amen.
