Numbers 22:12–13 (ESV): 12 God said to Balaam, “You shall not go with them. You shall not curse the people, for they are blessed.” 13 So Balaam rose in the morning and said to the princes of Balak, “Go to your own land, for the Lord has refused to let me go with you.”
Seeking God for selfish gain is always an unfruitful venture. We should desire the Father’s will, not our own. May our hearts align with His for the good of others, all for the glory of God.
As Israel moved closer to the Promised Land, they came to the land of the Amorites and overtook them. After this, they camped in the plains of Moab beyond the Jordan at Jericho. Balak, king of Moab, became nervous as he heard what the Israelites had done to the Amorites. He sought out Balaam the prophet to curse the Israelites. After the second request from Balaam to go with the Moabites and curse the Israelites, God said, “Go with them, but only do what I tell you.” The Lord’s anger kindled against Balaam because he went.
Are you petitioning Heaven court to accomplish your will? Selfish motives will blind us to the will of God. It was the diviner’s fee that was motivating Balaam to petition heaven. Like Balaam, God might LET you partially have your way, but it won't be with His blessing. Beware of your motives and ask God regularly to align your heart with His. He has a way better plan, I promise.
Father, forgive us for pushing our agenda before You at times. Awaken our hearts to our sinful motives and replace them with a desire to do Your will we pray, in Jesus' name, amen.
