Psalm 20:7

Psalm 20:7 (ESV): “7 Some trust in chariots and some in horses, but we trust in the name of the Lord our God.”

When it comes to warfare, we don’t trust in any human weaponry; we trust in God, our Savior. He is the undisputed, undefeated, unstoppable champion of the universe. If He is for us, who can be against us?

David was a man who learned from an early age not to trust in the weapons of man. The Lord taught him to rely on His strength and abilities. As a young shepherd, David fought off a lion and a bear through the strength of the Lord. This experience equipped him to stand toe-to-toe with the uncircumcised Philistine, Goliath. David wasn’t relying on his excellent marksmanship to win this fight; he was trusting in God. David knew that “chariots and horses” were no match for his God. His trust rested in Him alone.

What are you trusting in to sustain and protect you in times of war? Our trust should not be in “guns and ammo” or “jets and warships.” Our trust should be in God. This includes spiritual battles. He is our only hope—but what a hope we have in Him! Don’t rely on anything earthly to see you through war. You need spiritual help, and you have it in Christ. Rest in His abilities and watch Him bring the victory. Amen?

Father, we praise You for being our protector and champion. You fight our battles with spiritual weaponry. Train us to trust You as You did with David. May we, too, have full trust in You as he did. We pray in Jesus’ name, amen.
