Psalm 32:5

Psalm 32:5 (ESV):5  I acknowledged my sin to you, and I did not cover my iniquity; I said, “I will confess my transgressions to the Lord,”and you forgave the iniquity of my sin. Selah”

Repentance is an important part of a believer’s life. Although holiness is our goal, when we miss the mark, we must repent. A failure to do so breaks our fellowship with God (1 John 1:5–10). It’s vital to remain in right fellowship with Him. Check your heart today and repent if needed.

David was a man who loved God but sinned greatly. He didn’t always repent immediately. In fact, when David sinned with Bathsheba, it is estimated that it took him several months to repent. David states that his bones were wasting away and that he was groaning all day long. His strength was dried up because he was holding on to his sin. However, when he finally repented, his soul rejoiced! The moral of the story is to repent often, lest you remain in a state of misery, for “many are the sorrows of the wicked” (Psalm 32:10).

What does it take for you to repent? Do you require a Nathan in your life, as David did, to confront your sin, or do you act upon the conviction of the Spirit? Whatever the case may be, it’s important to seek God regularly and ask Him to reveal any unrepentant sin. Remaining in unrepentance affects your mind, body, and soul. We are promised restoration if we repent. “If we confess our sins, God is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness” (1 John 1:9). Repent today and be restored. Amen?

Father, we ask that You search our hearts today. Weigh our motives and reveal if we are walking in ways that separate us from You. Convict us so that we might repent and be restored. Even now, we pray this in Jesus’ name. Amen.
