Psalm 33:8-9

Psalm 33:8–9 (ESV):8  Let all the earth fear the Lord; let all the inhabitants of the world stand in awe of him! 9  For he spoke, and it came to be; he commanded, and it stood firm.”

The power of our God is indescribable. He speaks things into existence. He says, “Let it be,” and it is! Who can do this? No one but our God. He alone is worthy to be feared. May we continually stand in awe of Him.

The psalmist writes here of the wonders of our great God. He is to be praised throughout all the earth, for He is the Creator God. Everything that exists was made by Him. He created something from nothing with just a word. This reveals the power of His Word. All the nations combined cannot come close to matching the power and might of Jehovah God. Therefore, the proper response is to fear the Lord and stand in awe of Him.

Does the Lord occupy the proper place in your heart and mind? When you look out at the world, do you fear the creation or the Creator? If you have a proper view of God, nothing else will be deserving of your fear and awe but Him. Remind yourself of His might and power—that His sovereign hand is holding this world together, and everything is unfolding exactly as it should. Fix your eyes on the Lord, and your anxiety will fade away. He…is…in…control.

Father, we thank You for reminding us of Your power and might. May our circumstances cower in the light of who You are. Protect us from giving our fear and awe to anyone or anything else. We pray this in Jesus’ name, amen.
