Psalm 71:16

Writer's picture: Tim RomeroTim Romero

Psalm 71:16 (ESV):16  With the mighty deeds of the Lord God I will come; I will remind them of your righteousness, yours alone.”

Living for God means walking in His power and righteousness. It’s not enough to simply say, “I am a follower of Jesus.” We should strive to reflect Him in all we do. He was mighty in word and deed!

This psalm is often attributed to David in the latter years of his life, during Absalom’s rebellion. What we know for sure is that the psalmist was under some form of oppression, and his strength was fading. He begins by declaring that his trust is in God alone, acknowledging that He alone is his refuge. The psalmist pleads with God to give him strength so that he might properly represent Him. He longs to be a witness of God’s strength and righteousness, determined not to bring shame to His name.

What is your aim in life, Christian? If it is to please God, then you must abandon yourself and rely on His strength. It is only through the power of the Spirit that we can be the witnesses we are called to be. When we walk in His power, we become a display of His righteousness. The world needs to see this. If you want to be a vessel for Him, you must rely on Him alone. This is what it means to live for the Lord. Amen?

Father, thank You for providing all we need for life and godliness. May we deny ourselves and rely solely on You for strength and power to be Your witnesses. Fill us afresh with Your Spirit, even now, we pray in Jesus’ name. Amen.
